Teach for India (TFI) is a program that places young professionals and graduates within India’s low income schools for 2 years. A spin-off of the Teach for America program, TFI has a phenomenally successful first year in 2009. The first batch consisted of fellows from top colleges and corporate jobs in India and abroad. Applications for the batch starting in 2010 are open till Jan 10 on a rolling basis. Interviews will be held at a number of locations both within and outside India.
Teach For India believes that in order for the country to achieve educational equity for all children, we need a movement of leaders across sectors who are committed to and will work toward ensuring that every child in India receives an excellent education.
To build this movement of leaders, Teach For India recruits India’s most outstanding college graduates and young professionals to serve as teachers in low-income schools for two years. In the short run, these young leaders act as a source of dedicated teachers in government and low-income private schools. Teach For India provides resources, training, and support to the Fellows so they can employ innovative teaching strategies and maximize their effectiveness in the classroom.

TFI fellows will work as full time teachers for 2 years and also lead a transformational project in their school or local community. The TFI model also offers continuous development through training programs. Many of the skills acquired during the program will be greatly valuable in any sector the fellow choses to enter after 2 years.
