A canteen conversation leads to the start of photo sharing website, Photodilse

Thursday July 25, 2013 , 3 min Read

“To photograph is to hold one's breath, when all faculties converge to capture fleeting reality. It's at that precise moment that mastering an image becomes a great physical and intellectual joy.” ― Henri Cartier-Bresson.

Photography is probably one of the most widespread hobbies and people across the globe enjoy clicking and sharing photos. Photodilse.com, inspired by the likes of flickr is another web based photo sharing platform which allows anyone from an amateur level using a point and shoot camera to a professional using full frame and high end models to share their work.

A couple of twenty year olds, Sudeep Samanta and Shailesh Lad pursuing their bachelor’s degree in Life sciences began Photodilse. It started out as a casual thought during a conversation in college canteen after all not every canteen conversation is unproductive. They saw great potential in their idea and received positive response from their photographer friends who agreed to contribute with their photographs. However the agreement didn’t last long and most of them bailed out at the last moment. Having had to start from scratch again, Photodilse finally went live in May 2013.

Two childhood friends, classmates and now co owners of a startup along with photographers all over the globe who are a part of their team contribute to the photoart on display. Since its inception Photodilse had the privilege of having some of the elite photographers contributing their work. With an overwhelming response on the website they are planning to start a club of photographers where amateurs can learn from the big shots. They also write dedicated articles to provide basic knowledge of photography, which can always come in handy when anyone starts shooting. Inspiring people is their utmost goal.

Most photography websites would reject the work of amateurs saying it wouldn’t meet their standards unlike Photodilse who publish the art of enthusiastic and deserving photographers thus providing them an exclusive platform to share their talent at the international level.

Marketing is the most important part of any business but Photodilse do not follow a dedicated marketing strategy and use social network to spread word about the website. By featuring the work of others and helping them gain popularity, also each time a person shares the link of his images on social networking sites they are promoting their work as well the website. This is what they like to term as ‘Auto Marketing’. To reach out to a wider range of people they are planning to launch a magazine.

Initially, Photodilse was planned to become a website for selling photographs however very soon they realized that the task at hand was not easy without and published photos for free but after the success Photodilse achieved they wish to transform it into a Stock-Photo Website.

In a heavily populated market Photodilse wants to be the top dog by becoming India’s top Stock Photo Company in the future. With the start that they got, you might say it could happen but the journey to be top is long and hard and anything can happen in between so it’s better to just sit back and enjoy the photo art on display at Photodilse.
