Delhi to vote in style thanks to free luxury ride with Uber
It is the election season in India and people will choose the next government at the Centre by participating in the nation’s largest talent show ever. To drive more voting in the metros, premium car rental service Uber will offer free rides on polling day to anyone using the Uber app to request a premium car. Delhi citizens get the first chance as tomorrow is the polling day there.
Voters need to download the app for free, register and enter a special promo code created for this initiative. This code enables the user to request a free ride at the push of a button to the nearest polling station and cast their vote.
Given that tomorrow is polling day in NCR -- Delhi, Gurgaon and Noida, people can use the promo code (VOTEDEL) to avail free rides to polling booths. Uber (link) will offer free rides in four other cities on the respective polling day.
The mobile app based luxury car rental service forayed into the Indian market in August last year. The popular iPhone app, with which you can request for a cab for rent, had chosen Bangalore as the first launch city followed by four more cities, including Chennai, Hyderabad, Mumbai and Delhi.
Speaking about the initiative, Gagan Bhatia, GM, Uber Delhi, said, “This general election, we want to make it as easy as possible for people to go out and get their voices heard in our vibrant democracy. Choice is a beautiful thing and we want to ensure everyone has a chance to exercise their right to vote. Though we cater to a unique market of highly tech-savvy, urban users we want to encourage these people to take seniors and first-time voters in their homes with them in their Uber ride. With a rider base that is growing so fast, we feel this is the least we can do to give back to the cities we operate in.”
After consolidating its presence in 80 plus markets in six Continents since its launch in 2010, Uber started its operations in India last year. Headquartered in San Francisco, CA, Uber has 400 employees across the globe and is backed by some leading venture capitalists – Google Ventures, TPG Capital, Jeff Bezos, Goldman Sachs, Benchmark Capital, and Menlo Ventures.
Considering tomorrow is polling day in NCR, Uber’s move to ferry voters in its mixed fleet comprising of Toyota Camry, Honda Accord, Mercedes, BMW and Audi will encourage more voters to cast their vote with uber luxury and style.
With election fever getting viral across the country, this is a well timed marketing move from Uber.
