Haptik and Flat.to collaborate to launch a chat guide for college admissions, Madmission

Friday June 27, 2014 , 2 min Read

Haptik is a mobile application which helps users communicate with brands via chats, a whatsapp for brands. Their broader vision is to provide “a better way to get help” and as a step in this direction, Haptik has partnered with Flat.to to launch Madmission, a chat guide for college admissions.

Flat.to is a real estate listing portal for students to help find houses on rent near their colleges. Haptik is co-founded by ex-Flurry India Director Aakrit Vaish and he is also an investor in Flat.to. Founded by Gaurav Munjal, Flat.to is a promising young startup that was recently acquired by Commonfloor.

Flat.to still operates as an individual entity and leveraging its user base, has tied up with Haptik for this new campaign. Madmission is a chat guide for everything related to college admissions. Aakrit and team write on their blog:

There are 573 universities in India consisting of about 33,000 colleges, and each having multiple streams and degrees. In most cases, there is no standardized procedure for application and no easy way to check on important dates, cut off marks, etc. So, during this college admission season, given the convenience of the Haptik platform, we felt we should do something about it.

The current scope includes all the streams in colleges in Bengaluru, Chennai and Mumbai. The topics students can ask about are things like: cut off marks, application procedure, documents required, important dates, etc. In the first 24 hours of its launch, Haptik has received 250 messages and the early signs are proving to be encouraging.

This campaign is a good example of collaboration between two companies bringing together their strengths -- Flat.to with their targeted audience and Haptik with a solution that is more convenient than existing means. Both the sectors -- instant messaging and real estate -- have been pretty hot with a lot of activity.

Real Estate as a sector is seeing consolidation with the likes of MagicBricks and 99Acres at the top followed close on the heels by Housing.com and Commonfloor. There are quite a few other companies in the real estate space like Metroplots, Appartment Adda who come in with their own unique features. With respect to messaging, Hike (which is backed by Bharti Soft Bank) has got very good traction with more than 20 million users.
