Amazon enables 'Make In India' manufacturers sell globally
In line with its endeavor to transform the way India sells, Amazon has announced the launch of its global selling program in India, opening doors for Indian businesses to export to ecommerce markets of the world. Amazon is extending two of its pioneering products - Selling on Amazon (SOA) and Fulfillment By Amazon (FBA) to businesses of all sizes and scale from across the country to go global and showcase their “Made in India” creations and products, to hundreds of millions of customers globally starting with listing on Amazon.com and Amazon.co.uk.
To start with, the program allows exporting products in the apparel, home furnishing (including Indian handicrafts), jewelry, books, collectibles, sporting goods, handbags, shoes and health & beauty products categories. Manufacturers and local brands can now seamlessly export their creations across these categories and take India to the world.
According to Chad Goelzer, Director Global Sales for Amazon,
Amazon today offers businesses unprecedented reach to customers around the globe. No longer are they bound by geography with access to Amazon’s over 270 million active customers worldwide. In fact, sellers on Amazon from more than 100 different countries around the world have fulfilled orders to customers in 185 countries utilizing our FBA service. Our Global Selling Program in India is designed to assist Indian manufacturers & businesses to grow their business by leveraging Amazon’s state-of-the-art technology, world class logistics infrastructure and customer service expertise.
Selling on Amazon provides businesses of all sizes a compelling international sales channel, with no product listing fees, no upfront costs of creating a website or setting up a physical store and secure payments infrastructure. With Fulfilment by Amazon, manufacturers and sellers can store their products in Amazon’s warehouse; and Amazon packs and delivers the orders to customers, provides customer service and handles returns. FBA makes it possible for businesses to take advantage of Amazon’s investment in technology and innovation to serve their customers better.
Talking about the massive opportunity for Indian businesses, especially SMEs, Amit Deshpande, Director Seller Services, Amazon India said
In recent years, the growth of global e-commerce has made export of products an intensifying force in India’s foreign trade, offering millions of enterprises, most of which are small and medium Businesses (SMB’s), an opportunity to expand beyond the domestic market. There is great demand for Indian products, not only from the millions of Indians living abroad but global consumers across ethnicities who benefit from a vast & unique selection at reasonable prices from Indian sellers. We look forward to helping businesses navigate through the complexities of selling globally and develop an international footprint by leveraging the enormous demand for their products across borders and thus transform the way India makes and sells.
To enable businesses take Indian creations to the world, Amazon will provide local enablement solutions through verified third party service providers. These initiatives include logistics partners, tax consultants and compliance experts to make the process of global selling smooth and friction-free.
To help manufacturers & businesses familiarize themselves with the tastes and preferences of the local country where they are selling and launch relevant selection, Amazon’s global selling team also helps them understand local demand patterns, while also helping sellers improve the discoverability of their products on each marketplace.
Hidesign, one of India’s most popular high-end fashion brands, has successfully leveraged the Amazon Global Selling program to expand its reach in the U.S. and U.K. Mr. Vikas Kapur, CEO of Hidesign America Inc says,
Global Selling is a fantastic opportunity for Indian brands and manufacturers because it allows us to sidestep the distributor and sell directly to customers around the globe and at much lower prices.” He adds “For Hidesign, it’s not just the sales we get on amazon.com. It is also an opportunity to learn about e-commerce in a mature market. And perhaps the most interesting aspect for a high end fashion brand like Hidesign is that it opens doors to the entire Amazon network and its affiliate companies. With the entire network’s support, we look forward to eventually expanding our reach in other markets.
