Grow at your pace – don’t lose your plot in the competition

Grow at your pace – don’t lose your plot in the competition

Monday May 23, 2016 , 3 min Read

All the women out there who are juggling work-life balance are striving so hard to outperform the competition that they are losing their own plot. Don’t just manage home, work, kids but chart a growth story. Don’t burn out, but take a moment to reflect what your goal in life is. Figure out your own ambition, not what your family, the society or others want from you, and then strategically chalk out a plan.

Each one of you is special, but not everyone can be successful at the same age, time and moment. Grow at your own pace, prioritise your milestones and then strive to achieve them with all you have, and nothing can come in between you and your success.

Don’t let marriage and child-rearing be a hindrance, rather let them become the motivation and the ground beneath your feet. Have the best of both worlds – personally and professionally. Just don’t be too harsh on yourself. Enjoy each moment, live your life guilt free and make your dreams come true.

Make things happen: Go out there and do it. Once you start executing your plan your dreams will take shape and things will begin to happen one step at a time. Remember, Rome was not built in a day.

Build your support system: Not all of us are lucky enough to have a family to take care of the kids and home when we are out chasing our dreams. But that should not be a showstopper. Figure out a way; it could be a different work routine, working from home, taking kids along or other arrangements between you and your spouse or your reliable friends. Remember, where there is a will there is way.

Prioritise your work: Trying to do everything at once will not get you anywhere. Prioritise; some days work is more important, some days family is. Devote your time and energies accordingly. And don’t be guilty of not being able to do everything and be everywhere. Give quality time both at work and at home.

Be positive: A strong willpower, right attitude and positive frame of mind can take you places. Read inspiring stories of other great women achievers.

Advocate blatantly for yourself: Come up with your own definition of success, and increase your visibility. Talk about your work, your beliefs, your business and prove it with numbers. No one can be a better advocate for you than you yourself. Take center stage, and be the master of your destiny.

Think big and be bold: Think big and be bold. In fact, in a recent impact study on successful entrepreneurship sponsored by EY, the ability to think big and be bold came out as the number one differentiator between success and failure.

Leave your comfort zone, and take action. The big secret in life is that there is no big secret. Whatever your goal, you can get there if you’re willing to work towards it. Celebrate yourself and enjoy your journey of life.
