Harmanpreet Kaur, the captain of the Indian women’s Twenty20 cricket team, was recently appointed as the Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) in the Punjab police force. The stars on her uniform were pinned by Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh, and Director General of Police (DGP) Suresh Arora.

According to The Indian Express, Singh tweeted,

Proud to join DGP Suresh Arora in pinning the stars on the uniform of this young cricketer @ImHarmanpreet as she takes over as DSP in @PunjabPolice. This lady has done us proud and I’m confident she’ll continue to do so. My best wishes are with her.

Employed under the Indian Railways previously, Harmanpreet was facing a setback to get transferred from the Union government. According to the IANS, the Arjuna award winner was not being relieved by Western Railway, where she worked as an Office Superintendent.

Harmanpreet then put in a request seeking help to join the Punjab police, and the state's chief minister personally brought this matter to the Railway ministry, requesting them to waive off the bond, and allow the Moga native to join the Punjab police.

The bond stated that the famous cricketer would have to return the salary of five years if she decides to leave before the completion of her five-year bond. She had already completed three years of her service with the Indian Railway before she decided to resign from the post.

Kaur gained popularity with a match-winning score of 171 against the Australian team in England. This monumental score was cited as one of the primary reasons behind India’s entry into the finals.

She was offered the post by the Punjab chief minister last year after her commendable performance in the Women’s World Cup.
