Tackling it early: Kate Middleton on the importance of addressing mental health concerns in children

Inspirational quotes by the Duchess of Cambridge Kate Middleton on understanding mental health.

Kate Middleton, the Duchess of Cambridge, has been a leading voice on issues concerning mental health. From visiting schools to creating a website that helps professionals and students deal with mental health issues, Kate has been working endlessly on new and different ways to create awareness. She primarily focuses on helping children because she believes that addressing the problem of mental health at an early stage would smoothen the path to adulthood.

On her birthday, we take inspiration from her:

“We have heard time and time again in the course of our work how talking can help heal the hidden challenges we can't deal with alone.”

“We have seen that two heads are better than one when dealing with a mental health problem.”

“Change the way we all talk to each other about our mental health.”

“Together with open conversations and greater understanding, we can ensure that attitudes for mental health change and children receive the support they deserve.”

“Mental health is how we feel and think. Things that can’t really be seen, but that affect us every day and talking about them can feel difficult… Sometimes, it’s just a simple conversation that can make things better."

“The challenge that so many people have is not knowing how to take that first step of reaching out to another person for help.”

“With the right help, children have a good chance of overcoming their issues while they are still young and can have the bright future they deserve.”

For too long we have been embarrassed to admit when our children need emotional or psychiatric help, worried that the stigma associated with these problems would be detrimental to their futures.”
