Archit Gupta

Archit Gupta is the Founder and CEO at ClearTax. From being a software engineer in Silicon Valley to helming one of India's largest start-ups, has spearheaded a massive paradigm shift in the fin-tech sector through the use of technology. Archit earned his B. Tech in Computer Science and Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology, Guwahati, before proceeding to complete his Master’s degree in Computer Science from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. After graduating in 2008, he began working at a California-based IT company, Data Domain, as a software engineer. Inspired by Silicon Valley’s start-up environment, and having seen people solve problems through tech, Archit realized that he could do the same in his country as an entrepreneur – a decision that made him leave his high-paying job and return to India. Having first-hand experienced how completely devoid of technology the Indian taxation system was, he began developing his idea for an online income tax filing system that simplified the tax filing process for consumers. The insights and knowledge he gained while working in Silicon Valley helped him in starting his own venture and, in 2011, he co-founded ClearTax, a company offering online e-filing and taxation solutions for individuals, businesses, chartered accountants, and tax professionals. At an early stage, ClearTax was chosen by Y Combinator for its first India-focused investment, marking a major milestone for Archit and his team. It also became the first Indian company to secure investment from PayPal co-founder Max Levchin and San Francisco-based venture capital firm Founders Fund. Soon, Archit was selected for the Fortune ‘40 Under 40’ Entrepreneurship Awards and was also featured on the ‘35 Under 35’ list by the Entrepreneur India magazine. ClearTax was also listed by TechInAsia as one of the top fintech startups in India and was recognized by The Economic Times and NDTV Gadgets as the best tax filing website in the country. Archit’s vision for ClearTax is to establish it as the go-to tax solution for every Indian. He aims to achieve this by building an extensive product catalogue to include every tax and finance-related solution that anyone can ask for. He also believes that his idea of simplifying tax for consumers could not have been achieved without an extremely capable team backing the vision. Archit enjoys playing chess, reading, and working out at the gym to de-stress. He is also an avid foodie and a music lover.
