Ed Schlesinger

Ed Schlesinger serves as the Benjamin T. Rome Dean at Johns Hopkins University's Whiting School of Engineering and is a professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering. During his tenure, he has launched transformative initiatives, including the Data Science and AI Institute, the Ralph O’Connor Sustainable Energy Institute, and the Johns Hopkins Institute for Assured Autonomy. Schlesinger has also championed innovative education and research programs, such as the Doctor of Engineering program and partnerships to enhance STEM education in Baltimore. An accomplished researcher, he has published over 250 papers, holds 13 patents, and is a fellow of IEEE and SPIE. In 2024, he received a Public Service Medal from Singapore’s Prime Minister’s Office and joined Maryland’s Governor’s Workgroup on Science and Technology Innovation. Before joining Johns Hopkins, he held prominent roles at Carnegie Mellon University and earned his degrees from the University of Toronto and Caltech.
