BMW has updated the 5 Series lineup in India by discontinuing some models while adding a new variant. The German marque has pulled the plug on the 520d Luxury Line, 530d M Sport, and the limited-run 50 Jahre Edition in the country. This essentially means that BMW has removed the 3.0-litre diesel engine from the 5 Series range.

Instead, the carmaker has launched a new 520d M Sport variant for Rs 68.90 lakh (ex-showroom). The 5 Series lineup also includes the petrol-powered 530i M Sport, priced at Rs 65.40 lakh (ex-showroom). Post this rejig, the 5 Series lineup only features 4-cylinder petrol or diesel mills under its hood.

Updated styling

The new 520d comes with the M Sport package, adorned with sportier visual elements such as aggressively styled front and rear bumpers, chrome exhaust tips, and M-specific elements like blue brake callipers and M badges on the fender. Other exterior highlights include 18-inch alloy wheels, side skirts, and a gloss black kidney grille with chrome outlining.

Features on offer

Inside the cabin, the luxury saloon receives similar M-specific highlights, including door sills, sports seats, floor mats, and a leather steering wheel. It also gains BMW’s Laserlight technology over the outgoing 520d luxury line.

Powering the new 520d M Sport is a 2.0-litre diesel engine that cranks out 188 bhp and 400 Nm of peak torque. The 530i M Sport, on the other hand, features a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol motor under its hood that develops 248 bhp and 350 Nm of peak torque. Both engines are paired with an eight-speed Steptronic automatic transmission.
