Lamborghini brings its first high performance hybrid sportscar- Revuelto

After the Aventador, Lamborghini has now introduced its successor—Revuelto— the Italian marque’s new flagship product and boasts many firsts for a Lamborghini. The Aventador debuted in 2011 and comprised limited edition models like Centenario, Sian, among others.
Electrified powertrain
It is the first time Lamborghini has gone environment conscious by employing a hybrid powertrain in its model. Powering the supercar is an all-new 6.5-litre V12 naturally aspirated petrol engine paired with a plug-in hybrid system consisting of three electric motors and a 3.8kWh lithium-ion battery pack.
Lamborghini Revuelto- successor to Aventador
The new 6.5-litre mid-mounted L545 engine is the lightest at 218 kg and the most powerful 12-cylinder unit from Lamborghini to date, which dishes out 813 bhp at 9,250 rpm and a peak torque of 725 Nm at 6,750 rpm. Combined with the electric motors, this powertrain cranks out a huge 1,001 bhp. A new eight-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox will carry out the transmission duties, getting rid of the obsolete single-clutch unit.
What’s more interesting is the construction and placement of this new powertrain. For starters, the carmaker has placed two electric motors on the front axle and mounted the third one above the gearbox. Each of the front motors drives one wheel, while the third motor supplies power to the rear wheels, depending on the selected driving mode and conditions.
The rear motor also doubles up as the starter motor and generator and supplies energy to the front electric motors via the battery, thus offering all-wheel drive capabilities. The gearbox is mounted behind the V12 engine transversely to the 3.8kWh battery pack, housed within the central ‘transmission’ tunnel, tuned to offer more power than range. As a result, the fully electric range on Revuelto is a meagre 10km.
Mechanical highlights of Revuelto
As for performance, Revuelto can accelerate to 100 kmph from a standstill in just 2.5 seconds and can clock at a top speed of 350 kmph. The accumulated effect of a lighter chassis, engine, and body panels built from carbon fibre and other lightweight materials results in Lamborghini achieving the best weight-to-power ratio of 1.75 kg/CV.
Evolved Y-shaped design
In terms of design, Revuelto has a distinct styling and yet, looks unmistakably like a Lamborghini. The Italian carmaker has incorporated design cues from the brand’s previous models. For instance, the vertically opening scissor doors are inspired by Countach, the floating blade on the rear fender from Diablo, while the muscular and slanted fascia is adapted from Murciélago.
Revuelto exterior highlights
The supercar exudes a unique appeal with Y-shaped visual elements like LED DRLs, taillights, and side body panels. At the front, the headlights and air intakes are housed within massive Y-shaped enclosures, while the rear end gets a similar LED lighting signature for taillights, accompanied by a pair of high-mounted hexagonal exhaust vents.
Similar Y-shaped patterns are also visible on the massive 20-inch front and 21-inch rear wheels and rear air intakes for the engine. The fins behind the front wheel arches aid the car’s aerodynamics by directing the air along its sides into massive air intakes featuring an arrowhead-like outline.
Interiors
The Y-shaped theme is carried forward inside the cabin, too, with a driver-oriented design intended to make the driver ‘feel like a pilot’. There’s extensive use of carbon fibre, with the dashboard flaunting a “space-ship” design, enclosing the central air vents and the 8.4-inch vertical touchscreen display.

In addition, the dashboard features a 12.3-inch digital instrument console behind the steering wheel and a 9.1-inch passenger-side display. It comes with 70 different interior colour options. Compared to its predecessor, Revuelto gets a 26mm increase in headroom and an 84mm increase in legroom. The frunk (front trunk) is spacious enough to accommodate a golf bag.
Feature-wise, owners of Revuelto can access all critical information, including the fuel level, battery charge, electric range, and location, using Lamborghini's Unica smartphone app. It is also the first Lamborghini to come equipped with a comprehensive driver-assist system powered by cameras, radar, and other sensors, comprising active lane departure warnings, adaptive cruise control, lane change warnings, etc.
