Mahindra-owned Pininfarina unveils Battista electric hypercar at Formula E Hyderabad
Only 150 units of the all-electric Pininfarina Battista electric hypercar will be produced globally
Mahindra is synonymous with building tough utility vehicles in India, but the carmaker has its share in other international entities that make it a global automotive brand. One of the most prominent ones is Italian design studio and coach builder–Pininfarina– known for designing some of the most exotic machines on wheels.
The Mahindra-owned firm showcased its electric supercar prototype Battista at the recently concluded Hyderabad edition of Formula E. The car was unveiled in the presence of Mahindra Group Chairman Anand Mahindra, and was the first public appearance of the fully electric hypercar in India.

Globally revealed in early 2019, Battista is a limited-run battery-powered hypercar from the Italian design house, named after the company’s founder–Battista "Pinin" Farina. It has been described as the most powerful all-electric road-legal car in the world that makes a mammoth 1900 hp. It carries a whopping price tag of Rs 20 crore, making it the most expensive supercar ever to land in India.
The Hitex Exhibition Centre in Hyderabad hosted the E-Motor Show prior to India’s first-ever Formula E Race on the Hyderabad street track held on February 11, 2023. The event was attended by several industry outfits like commercial EV manufacturers, charging infrastructure companies, energy storage firms, technology startups, and EV components manufacturers.
Even legendary cricketer Sachin Tendulkar couldn’t help but take a spin on the all-electric supercar outside the race circuit. Known to be an avid automobile aficionado, Tendulkar even shared images of the same on his Twitter handle, which were retweeted by Anand Mahindra.
The prototype showcased at the Formula E Hyderabad featured an Indian tricolour livery at the rear. Unfortunately, the electric hypercar won’t go on sale in India. Primarily developed for the left-hand drive markets, only 150 units of the Battista will be produced.
