has launched its latest offering—an electric motorcycle named Vader. Introductory prices for the motorcycle start at Rs 1,09,999 (ex-showroom Ahmedabad) and Rs 1,29,999 (ex-showroom pan-India, including FAME II subsidies).Bookings for the Vader are open for a token amount of Rs 999 at all 68 dealerships across the country and deliveries are slated to start in July this year. The company claims the motorcycle to be a 100% localised product.
Design and hardware
Starting with its design, Odyssey Vader gets the contemporary styling of a commuter motorcycle with round headlamps, a small fly screen, bikini fairing, and black alloy wheels. In fact, most of its body panels seem to be borrowed from another very popular motorcycle in the Indian market. It will be offered in five colour schemes—Midnight Blue, Fiery Red, Glossy Black, Venom Green, and Misty Grey.
Vader gets a familiar hardware setup comprising a telescopic fork up front and a dual spring-loaded setup at the rear. Braking duties are handled by a 240mm front and a 220mm rear disc, complemented by a combi braking system (CBS). It rolls on 17-inch front and rear alloy wheels shod with a 90/90 section tyre up front and a fatter 140/70 section unit at the rear. The motorcycle weighs around 128kg.
Powertrain specs
Powering Vader is a hub-mounted electric motor that develops a nominal output of 4.02bhp (3kW) and a peak output of 6.03bhp (4.5kW) while peak torque output is rated at 170 Nm. The motor derives energy from an IP67-rated 3.7 kWh lithium-ion battery pack. There are three ride modes to choose from—Eco, Drive and Sport, which alter the motor output and the range.
As a result, Eco offers a maximum range of 125 km, while Drive and Sport offer a range of 105 km and 90 km, respectively on a single charge. The battery pack can be fully charged in about four hours. As for performance, the battery-powered motorcycle can clock top speed of 85 kmph.
Features on offer
In terms of features, Vader offers a first-in-segment 7-inch digital instrument cluster with an Android display and compatible Google Maps navigation, Bluetooth connectivity, and over-the-air (OTA) updates. Other notable features on offer include 18 litres of storage space, regenerative braking, and LED lighting. There are three additional drive modes—forward, reverse and parking.
Further, the company is offering a dedicated Odysse EV app providing access to connected vehicle services including live tracking, remote immobilisation, geofencing, anti-theft alerts, low battery alerts, and more.
“We have an exciting new product line-up planned for 2023, along with the FAME-II approved High-Speed motorbike VADER. We plan to launch an electric scooter in the third quarter of 2023. We also intend to increase our dealership network to over 150 by the end of the year, and we anticipate that this initiative will increase our sales by at least 300%,” said Nemin Vora, CEO, Odysse Electric Vehicles.
