An officer and a gentleman
An insight into the life of a police officer as well as a thorough gentleman.
Ranjit Sinha, a Post Graduate in Science from Patna University, had an M.Phil from IIPA, New Delhi and a Diploma in HR Management from Wollongong University, Australia.
He was decorated with the Police Medal for Meritorious Service in 1991 and the President’s Police Medal for Distinguished Service in 1997.
Shri Ranjit Sinha, IPS (RR:1974) breathed his last on the morning of April 16, 2021. He had an extremely illustrious career. After serving as a distinguished police officer in Bihar, he was posted to New Delhi as Joint Director in CBI. Ranjit Sinha handled high profile cases in his stint in the CBI before being posted as IG Operations in Srinagar, Jammu & Kashmir. With terrorism at its peak, Mr Sinha dealt with it with iron hands leaving no stone unturned to bring back normalcy in the valley.
Mr Sinha was one of the rare officers to have served as Director General in three organisations- beginning with the Railway Protection Force and retiring in the Central Bureau of Investigation. He was also appointed as the Director General of ITBPF.
In his long career of about 40 years he touched everyone’s life with positivity and was full of energy and passion. He was bold, brave and did not shy away in calling a spade a spade, which often landed him in controversies too. But he never shied away from these problems. On the contrary he would spring back with double force in the face of adversity.
A tiger in real sense, he held his head high and was full of self-esteem and honour. Seldom was he depressed and sad, even in his tough times post retirement he would often compare himself with the ‘Phoenix’ which would rise again from the dust and conquer his enemies.
Post first dose of corona vaccine, he was living a normal life. Before his second dose, he fell sick with cold, cough, fever. However, as was his nature he never bothered anyone in his sickness also.
Even when he was detected COVID positive, he silently consulted a doctor and started taking medicines, refusing to go to the hospital.
He had a wonderful life which blossomed not long but full of life spreading its fragrance and happiness in all directions.
