This Muktsar-based women's collective will not bend to outdated customs
Mybhago, a women's collective based in Muktsar, Punjab, is the stuff of inspiring stories. A group of 10 women formed this group in 2002 by each contributing an initial seed money. They went on to raise Rs 2.5 lakhs from the government and last year made a profit of Rs 1 lakh.
The women make woollen garments and Phulkari women's suits and salwars. Initially, their challenge was the taunts of people in their community who objected to their going out of the house to sell their products. Says, Rajpardeep Kaur, President of the group, "We were brave and did not succumb to people's taunts." Her message to other women is to be financially independent and help in their family's financial health.
