Here’s how you can binge-watch your favourite shows on Netflix this weekend for free

For the first time ever, Netflix is hosting StreamFest 2020 and is giving away a free binge-watching experience to all this weekend in India. From December 5 to 6, 2020, you can watch any show or movie of their choice on Netflix for free. 

Competing against the likes of Amazon Prime India, Disney Hotstar, Zee5, among others, Netflix is attempting to lure binge-watchers to subscribe to its services in India through the StreamFest 2020 — that will begin from 12:01 PM on December 5 and will end on 11:59 PM on December 6. 

According to sources, during a conference call, Netflix COO Greg Peters said,

“An idea we’re excited about — and we’ll see how it goes, we think that giving everyone in the country access to Netflix for free for a weekend could be a great way to expose a bunch of new people to the amazing stories that we have. We’re really creating an event, and hopefully, get a bunch of those folks to sign up.”

To watch for free on Netflix, you need to register on the OTT platform. The fest is not targetted at those who are already subscribed to the streaming platform. Non-users can sign up with their name, email or phone number and start streaming without making any payment. Netflix will limit the resolution to Standard Definition for StreamFest 2020. Only one user can log in through the registered Netflix account at a time.

StreamFest 2020 allows you to access all features that the current subscribers enjoy. These include creating profiles (including Kids' profiles), setting up parental controls, browsing in Hindi, adding series or films to 'My List', watching with subtitles or dubs, using ‘Smart Downloads’ on mobile, and checking out the ‘Top 10’ list.

Netflix offers monthly subscription plans across three price slabs of Rs 499, Rs 649, and Rs 799, respectively, apart from the Rs 199 mobile-only pack.
